Dharmaraja College’ stun Maliyadeva College clinch Olcott Memorial Trophy in UAE. Nalanda and Mahinda College take Honours in Plate and Shield in 15th Olcott Cricket Tournament.
15th Sir Henry Steel Olcott Schools Cricket Tournament, organised by Olcott Alumni UAE was held on 10th February 2024 at Royal Sports Club Ground, Ajman. The event, which has become a permanent fixture u in the local cricket calendar in the United Arab Emirates, was participated with old boys of eight Olcott Schools and Sri Lankan cricket lovers living in the United Arab Emirates in the round robin format.
The top ranked team of each group played for the Trophy Championship while the runners-up and second runner-up of each group progressed to compete in the Plate and Shield Championship respectively. Only unbeaten team during the preliminary round, Dharmaraja played against Maliyadeva in the final whilst Nalanda and Dharmasoka played for the Plate finals. For the Shield championship Mahinda and Dharmapala fought each other.
Dharmaraja College secured a dramatic victory against Maliyadeva College to become the Oloctt Trophy champion for the 3rd occasion. S.B Udayanga of Maliyadeva College adjudged as the Man of the Match (Final) while Amila Ranawaka & Dilan Panduka of Maliyadeva College adjudged as Best Batsman & Best Bowler of the Trophy Championship respectively.
Nalanda College won the Plate champion for 2024 and Dharmasoka College became Runner-Up. Eranga Jayasinghe of Nalanda College adjudged as the Man of the Match (Final) while Dilan Suraweera & Sameera Abeysinghe of Nalanda College adjudged as Best Batsman and Best Bowler of the Plate Championship respectively.
At the Shield completion, Mahinda College beat Dharmapala College and become the Champion of the Shield. Kanishka Piyumal of Mahinda College adjudged as the Man of the Match (Final) while Ajith Sooriyaarachchige & Anuradha Jayarathna of Mahinda College adjudged as Best Batsman and Best Bowler of the Shield Championship respectively.
Dharmasoka College ladies won the exhibition match played between Maliyadeva College ladies while Oloctt President trophy won by Ananda College beat President XI Team.
The tournament was organised by the Sri Lankan Olcott Schools Alumni in the United Arab Emirates for the 15th consecutive year and Ambassador H.E.Udaya Indraratne, Consul General Alexi Gunasekara, Sri Lanka’s former Army Commander Gen. Mahesh Senanayake and Chief Guest Arjuna Ranatunga graced the occasion as the Guest of Honours & distributed the award for the winners.
