Dharmaraja College, Kandy is one of the premier Buddhist Schools in the country boasting a prolific history of more than 138 years since 30 June 1887. The college was named after Buddha. Dharmaraja College, as well as the other Buddhist Schools in Sri Lanka, owes its existence to Col Henry Steele Olcott, philanthropist and the founder of the Buddhist theosophical Society. A land area of 54 acres {220,000 m2) is owned by the school spreading over half of the Dharmaraja hill. Dharmaraja has one of the oldest and most prestigious scout troops in the world, the 1st Kandy Dharmaraja Scout Group, which was established in1913. The school has a student population exceeding 5,000 across 13 grades from primary to secondary classes. The academic staff of more than 300 is led by Principal Kamal Ariyasinghe since 2021.
Inaugurated on 02nd November 2013, the Old Boys’ Association of Dharmaraja College , Kandy in the UAE aka Dharmaraja Alumni Association , UAE (DAAU) is recognized as an outstanding and popular group within the Sri Lankan Community in the UAE. DAAU has reserved its fame with numerous victories in sporting arenas especially in Cricket and Rugby.
Since the formation of DAAU, various events have been organized including fund raising for the development of the Alma Mater as well as bringing the alumni and their families together and supporting the members in times of need.
